About me

We miss the opportunity to translate precious moments into compelling stories seen through lenses that are uniquely ours.

Shalini Damodaran has been a leader in the field of education for about thirty years. She has always been inspired and intrigued by the various approaches to prepare and prime the mind for optimal learning and success. She has carried out inquiry based research, formally and informally, with both her students and teacher mentees to help them be a better part of themselves. She has discovered through a series of trials and tribulations, and her own experience with meditation, the value of being calm no matter how trying the circumstances. Meditation opens doors, windows, pathways and a whole new life that you never knew existed. She realized that by employing simple freely accessible tools like your own breath, you can centre yourself and find a fine balance in the day to day, moment to moment existence.

As a Mindfulness practitioner and teacher, she is guided by Jon Kabat-Zinn’s classic work: Full Catastrophe Living: Using the Wisdom of your Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain and Illness (2013). In 2013 she did the 8 week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Programme which inspired her to do a Mindfulness teacher training programme with Shamash Alidina, the author of the international bestseller, Mindfulness for Dummies and The Mindful Way through Stress. Based in London, Shamash runs his own successful training organization that runs workshops and webinars to teach mindfulness to an international audience. In addition to mindfulness, Shamash believes in bringing an attitude of Kindness to your awareness of your breath, body and mind. Kindness is, I believe, a much needed quality today.

Mindfulness and Kindness are closely aligned to Shalini’s own values. In her book, ‘Dad and I’, she shines a light on the importance of Openness, Diversity and Inclusivity which she feels will ultimately result in peace and a less divided world.

As a mother of two young adults, a boy and a girl, she has experienced both the joys and challenges of parenting. She is also cognizant of the distresses and distractions of the times that we are subject to from day to day…that can sometimes be palpable and inescapable.

Loving my Breath was thus born as an offering for mental and physical rejuvenation. The tools used are accessible and research-based. You will learn how to respond to emotions and thoughts that cause anxiety and suffering that prevent you from reaching your optimum self. With an increased awareness of the breath, and proper breathing techniques, the intellect can be sharpened and the will strengthened to lessen pain and suffering. She has found meaning in her work as a mindfulness teacher to empower everyone with a sense of self-worth that is fundamental to general wellbeing.

A diminished awareness of the present moment inevitably creates other problems for us as well through our unconscious and automatic actions and behaviors, often driven by deep seated fears and insecurities.
